A systematic, data-driven field auditing platform for cycle tracks. City audit teams document obstructions, surface conditions, intersections, and safety data across 19 cycle track roads — building the evidence needed to improve cycling infrastructure.
Parisar is an NGO working on sustainable urban mobility since 1988. In December 2025, Parisar released its Cycle Track Audit Report (2024–25) covering 35 km across 19 roads — finding that only 11% of segments were rated "Good."
CycleAudit is Parisar's auditing tool for city teams. Surveyors on the ground document the real condition of cycle tracks. Every obstruction, broken surface, missing ramp, and dangerous intersection is recorded and scored, and each city's audit data stays with that city's leaders to review.
Roads are divided into precise 500m segments with GPS coordinates, ensuring complete and consistent coverage.
Safety, Continuity, and Comfort — three independent dimensions measured from real field observations and combined into a final weighted score.
Auto-generate comprehensive stakeholder reports with segment scores, observations, and actionable recommendations, and download a city-wide score sheet.
Each audit is linked to a named surveyor on the city's audit team, enabling accountability and historical tracking of audit data over time.
Parisar's 2024–25 Cycle Track Audit uncovered critical deficiencies across the cycle tracks it audited — findings that drive the case for urgent infrastructure intervention.
Only 11% of 77 audited segments met the threshold for Good quality — safe, continuous, and comfortable for everyday cyclists.
More than 60% of segments recorded fixed or movable obstructions blocking the cycle track, from hawkers to utility panels.
Nearly 40% of intersection points lack proper on/off ramps, forcing cyclists to dismount — a critical continuity failure.
A third of all segments have no functional lighting after sunset, making night cycling unsafe and discouraging commuters.
22% of segments have portions where the cycle track is entirely absent — forcing cyclists onto vehicular traffic lanes.
More than half of all segments reported pedestrians regularly walking on the cycle track, reducing usable width.
CycleAudit captures every dimension of cycle track quality — from surface material to obstruction counts — in a structured, repeatable format that ensures consistency across all surveyors.
Evaluate buffer zones, lighting conditions, intersection risk, and parked vehicle conflicts to measure how safe each segment is for everyday cyclists.
Buffer · Lighting · TrafficTrack missing sections, total obstruction counts, ramp quality at intersections, and signage presence to assess uninterrupted cycling flow.
Ramps · Signage · GapsAssess surface material type, shade coverage, pedestrian conflict frequency, and footpath quality to determine cyclist comfort.
Surface · Shade · FootpathDocument fixed, movable, and parked vehicle obstructions with specific type, count, and severity across every segment.
Fixed · Movable · ParkedCapture on/off ramp quality, markings, signage, and traffic device presence at every intersection point along the track.

Auto-generated · Parisar-brandedA structured 5-step process ensures every segment is audited consistently by any surveyor on a city's audit team — from road setup to the final report.
Select a road from the 19 cycle track roads in the audit network. Its start and end landmarks and GPS are captured automatically from the audit itself.
segment.phpAuto-divide the road into standard 500m segments, each with its own start and end landmarks.
AutoFor each segment, fill in landmarks, obstructions (30+ types), intersections, surface issues, lighting, and footpath data.
form.htmlData is stored in MySQL. Safety, Continuity, and Comfort scores are calculated automatically from submitted responses.
submit.phpGenerate a professional PDF with segment scores, key observations, critical issues, and recommendations for city authorities. City leaders can also download a city-wide score sheet.
report.phpStart/end landmarks · GPS coordinates · Fixed obstructions (12 types) · Movable obstructions (6 types) · Parked vehicle causes (6 types) · Track surface issues · Overhead obstructions · Intersection data · Footpath rating · Lighting · Shade · Buffer zone · Geometry type · Dimensions · Surveyor comments
Once a segment is submitted, it is automatically locked to prevent duplicate entries. Surveyors can view submitted data but cannot overwrite it — ensuring data integrity across the entire audit.
Once all segments are audited, a weighted final score (0–100) is calculated using segment lengths as weights. Roads scoring below 50 are rated "Poor" and flagged for priority intervention.
Each segment receives three independent scores — Safety, Continuity, and Comfort — which are averaged into a final score from 0 to 100.
Measures risks that could cause accidents or discourage use of the track.
Measures whether a cyclist can travel the segment without interruption.
Measures how pleasant and comfortable the segment is to cycle on.
Systematic data gives city teams and Parisar the evidence to press local authorities for better cycle infrastructure — facts from the field, not opinion.
